The Department of Animal Sciences was established in order to reorganize the subjects related to animal genetics, animal breeding and biotechnology to one unit. The offered graduate and postgraduate courses are: Mathematical statistics; Rabbit breeding (BSc), Animal breeding; Biometrics; Experimental design and evaluation; Basic conceptions of rabbit breeding; Rabbit nutrition (MSc), Biology of rabbit; Genetics of rabbit; Rabbit nutrition; Population genetics (PhD). The department has outstanding performance in research and publication. The cumulative impact factor of the publications of our colleagues exceeds one hundred, and the number of independent citations is above one thousand. In the course of a unique breeding program, in cooperation with the Olivia Ltd., the department carries out the genetic improvement of 3 officially recognized rabbit breeds (Pannon White, Pannon Ka, Pannon Large) based on Computer Tomography assisted selection which is a worldwide unique method in rabbit breeding. In different projects the department carries out researches connected to rabbit housing, animal welfare, breeding, management, meat production, meat quality and genetic analysis. Our most important international connections are: University of Padova, University of Perugia, University of Zagreb, University of Ljubljana and the INRA Research Centre in Toulouse.)
