The Department is in charge of BSc and MSc courses and PhD program in farm and companion animal nutrition. The Department focuses its research on dietary energy supply, amino acid and mineral metabolism of monogastric animals and on nutrient requriments of waterfowl, at present. Other important research concentrates on the effect of probiotics on the performance of swine and feeding value of byproducts in swine and poultry nutrition. The research also includes estimation of ruminal degradability of different byproducts. The Department has a well-equipped experimental area, the research work supported by a modern surgery room and a high standard feed mixing plant. The domestic and foreign contacts of the Department are wide-spread. It nurses good relations with several hungarian and european companies, universities and research institutes.
