The purpose of the teaching activity of the department is to provide chemical, biological and biochemical knowledge within the fields of natural sciences underpinning the agronomic and environmental sciences, and to enable the preparation for the disciplines of applied life science.
The staff members of the department carry out educational activities at each level of the education at AKK (higher education vocational training, basic, master and unclassified training), including the education of PhD students and teaching foreign language courses as well. We also take part in the Faculty of Economics through the knowledge transfer of our department profile. The teaching of biological objects is carried out in cooperation with the Department of Physiology and Animal Hygiene. In the field of agricultural courses, after the basic subjects of chemistry, students acquire knowledge of specific areas of the discipline (biochemistry, agrochemistry, food chemistry, feed analytics), which, along with the basic knowledge, enables interdisciplinary approaches and solutions for tasks and problems of the agricultural sector. cooperation with professionals in the food production industry. In the field of nature- and environmental preservation, we emphasize the basic relationships of environmental chemistry and the chemical background of the most important anthropogenic effects.
The staff members of the department participate in the implementation of the professional activities of the Economic Development and Innovation Operational Programs awarded by the University of Kaposvár. They cooperate with the Institute of Nutrition and product development and with the Institute of Plant Sciences and the laboratory network of the University. The research activities include molecular biological analyses, as well as stress-research studies, in particular with regard to the herbal and nutrition-related issues of heavy metal loads.
