The Institute of Plant Science is composed of a department (Department of Plant Production and Plant Protection) and two groups (Agrometeorology and Water Management Group; the Group of Soil Science and Soil Science Laboratory) whose educational and research activities are ramifying. The staff is mainly involved in teaching subjects related to mainly crop production. The number of subjects taught is over 40. The Institute’s teaching duty exceeds 100 hours/week (in terms of the number of lectures held) and assumes a significant role in both the graduate (higher-level vocational training, MSc BSc) and postgraduate (PhD) educational programmes of the Faculty and in those of the partner institutes. In addition to its educational activities exerted, the Institute is engaged in research and service activities carried out under the framework of consortia of international and domestic projects and assignments. The dissemination of scientific results is effectuated through holding lectures at academic/scientific conferences and laying publications at prestigious national (Hungarian) and international journals. The engagement of the Institute's academic staff in public life is outstanding. They are members and/or leaders of several national (i.e. the Education Committee of the Hungarian Chamber of Professionals and Doctor of Plant Protection, Hungarian Plant Protection Society, Hungarian Weed Research Society, and Hungarian Meteorological Society) as well as international (e.g., Kálmán László Mycological Society, European Weed Research Society, European Mycological Association) organisations.
