At the Department, 10 members of the staff carry out educational activities; their work is supported by a professor emeritus and an academician (Doctor honoris causa). The department is involved in almost all of the faculty’s training programmes related to HLVT, BSc and MSc courses and participates in the teaching of 46 subjects. In the training, the teaching of the six "plant protection modules", introduced since 2009, is prominent in Agricultural Engineering at the BSc-level. The lecturers of the Department also exert activities in the running of PhD Schools of other further educational institutions besides the faculty’s own PhD School. They are regularly invited to PhD defences as opponents or committee members. At the Department, on average 10 students write their theses each academical year. Their research activities are carried out through consortium tenders and assignments, the most important of which are the following topics: biodiversity and monitoring in nature conservation areas; mycological research in the Carpathian Basin; basic and applied plant protection research; production biology research in crop production; environmentally friendly and cost-saving fertiliser systems. The staff regularly publish in prestigious domestic and international scientific journals. Their scientific public activity is also vivid: they are members of/hold down leading positions at several domestic organisations (e.g. Hungarian Committee for Plant Protection, the Hungarian Plant Protection Association, Hungarian Weed Research Society) and international organizations (e.g. Kálmán László Mushroom Association, European Mycological Association).
